While we often focus on the face, the hands are one of the first areas to reveal signs of aging and chronic photodamage. Over time they experience progressive collagen depletion, dermal thinning, subcutaneous fat atrophy, and cumulative sun damage. Because of this, the skin becomes thinner, wrinkles appear, volume decreases, pigmentation appears, and veins and tendons become more visible.
Comprehensive non-surgical hand rejuvenation requires a multimodal approach targeting both dermal structure and pigmentary alterations. This is why, at The Skin Clinic (Beirut) and Skin Experts Polyclinic (Dubai), Dr. Dany Touma and his team combine injectables and multiple laser technologies for optimal results.
Injectables
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers provide immediate correction of age-related volume loss in the dorsal hands. HA is injected into the subcutaneous plane, usually with a canula, to restore hydration and immediately replace the lost soft tissue volume. It also camouflages the prominent veins and tendons.
Results last few months to a year depending on each case and the product used.
Biostimulators
Biostimulators are a slower, long term regenerative approach to volume restoration and skin thickening of the hands. Unlike traditional fillers that provide immediate volume, biostimulators (such as calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) or poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra)) activate collagen production in the skin leading to progressive soft tissue volume augmentation that takes 1-2 months to appear. It also provides reduction in prominence of veins and tendons, improved skin thickness and firmness in a natural and progressive way. Results are long-lasting (12–24 months depending on product and individual factors).
Expect some swelling and possible bruising for a few days after the treatment.
Lasers
Fraxpro Laser
It is a non-ablative fractional laser that targets dermal collagen while preserving the surrounding tissue. Because it is non-ablative, the surface of the skin remains largely intact, allowing for
faster recovery.
This treatment improves dermal thickness, enhances elasticity and reduces pigmentation to give a smoother and firmer skin with minimal down time.
Several treatment sessions are recommended to achieve optimal dermal remodeling.
Q-Switched Laser
Sun spots known as solar lentigines are common on chronically sun-exposed dorsal hands. Q-Switched laser selectively targets the pigment without damaging the surrounding skin to remove the brown spots and give a more youthful look to the hands.
