Scar Removal

Scars can develop following acne, injury, surgery, burns, or other skin conditions. Their appearance can vary depending on the type, depth, location, age of the scar, and individual healing response.

At The Skin Clinic Beirut and Skin Experts Polyclinic Dubai, Dr. Dany Touma uses individualized treatment approaches to address different types of scars. Depending on the scar characteristics, treatment may combine resurfacing, vascular, and pigment-targeting laser technologies with other procedures to improve texture, colour, and overall appearance.

Types of Scars

Atrophic Scars
These depressed scars occur when there is a loss of collagen or underlying tissue during the healing process. They are commonly associated with acne and may include different patterns such as ice-pick, boxcar, and rolling scars.

Treatment options may include:

  • Fractional laser resurfacing
  • Er laser treatment
  • Microneedling
  • Subcision
  • Combination treatment protocols
  • PRP as an adjunct in selected cases

Hypertrophic Scars
These raised scars develop when excess scar tissue forms during healing. Depending on their characteristics, treatment may include vascular laser technology, resurfacing treatments, injections, or combination approaches.

Individualized Scar Treatment

Scar treatment is selected according to the type, depth, texture, colour, location, and age of the scar. Vascular lasers may be considered for scars with persistent redness, while resurfacing lasers can be used to address uneven texture and stimulate collagen remodeling.

Pigment-targeting treatments may also be considered when scars are associated with changes in skin colour.

Multiple treatment sessions are often required, with the number and interval determined according to the scar characteristics and response to treatment. Early assessment may help determine the appropriate treatment approach, although established scars can also be evaluated and treated.

With more than 30 years of dermatological experience, Dr. Dany Touma combines different technologies and treatment techniques to develop individualized protocols for acne scars, surgical scars, traumatic scars, hypertrophic scars, and other forms of skin scarring.
