This biocompatible synthetic material has been used for over 20 years in cardiovascular surgery and hernia repair. More recently, it has found its place in cosmetic surgery as an excellent material for permanent soft-tissue augmentation.
Goretex is implanted immediately under the skin through very small incisions. Unlike collagen, local anesthesia is needed. The material is not biodergradable and results are permanent. In addition, no allergic reactions have been reported.
Goretex is best used to augment nasolabial folds, marionette lines, thin lips, and some depressed scars. |
